Cheese Doodle.

Journal Entry: Sat May 17, 2008, 10:58 PM

Today, I was walking out of the local grocery store,
bag of Cheese Doodles in hand,
and I realized something.

I was embarrassed.

Not because of what I was buying.
Not because of what I was wearing.
Nor what I was driving.
Nor what I was doing.

I was embarrassed because as a member of a species,
as a function of matter and time,
my place in the universe somehow devolved.

We started as cavemen.
Discovering things.
Learning things.
The entire species actively engaged in progress.
Move up the food chain.
Explore and learn.

Then we come to modern man.
Consuming.
Contributing little, if anything.
Doing nothing for the species,
besides carrying DNA.

A small portion of our species researches.
They still hold the candle of the cavemen.
The desire to learn, explore, progress.
The majority...

The majority stands to the side while the few,
carried on mechanical wings of brass,
fly low through the crowd,
touching the hands of the confounded as they pass.

So I stepped out of the grocery store,
holding the summation of hundreds of hours of work,
realizing that I really only have two choices;

Find my brass wings.
Or.
Return to mindless consuming.

Throwing the snackfood onto the seat next to me,
I understood that perhaps,
Perhaps I'd already made my choice.

It's a book that tried to prove the existence of people smarter than me :D It actually turned out to be about what's wrong with the scientific method.

Cheers. Not sure... When I get my next tattoo I think I'll ask my artist then. He's a different dude to who did the phoenix. A lot better, too, so he's got awesome ideas.

It does look good as-is. But perhaps instead of filling it in, something around it?

Ahhhh, yes.

I haven't had it finished, and I still have no idea how to finish it. I don't want to jump into anything though, so when the time is right I will just get it filled in... if I even decide to do that, I really quite like it as it is.

Alex Grey manages to kick ass non-stop. And while tattoos inspired by him are a dime a dozen, every once in a while there are those that really do the original piece justice. One in particular I'd seen was a reproduction of "Oversoul". But tattoos in general rock. I'd seen in your gallery you have one of a phoenix. Looks really good. Did you ever decide how to finish it?

Thanks for the watch and lovely comment. I also like Tool quite a bit, I saw them earlier this year. Awesome stuff. Alex Grey is amazing too, I've seen some great tattoos people have gotten of his work. I can't link you to any images right now (I'm sure you've seen plenty), but one that sticks out in my mind is a tattoo that completely went around somebody's calf.. so vibrant and awesome, it was done so well it did it justice.
